Coronavirus Film & Documentary

In this period, we are spending time inside of our homes and we are hungry to learn more about what is going on. There are several films and documentaries that illustrate what a pandemic, outbreak, and contagious disease situation look like, sometimes in a realistic way, sometimes in a more fictional way.

Here are the most popular on Prime Video

Contagion (2011)

"Contagion" follows the rapid progress of a lethal airborne virus that kills within days, as the worldwide medical community races to find a cure.

I found this movie very interesting and very close to real facts, such as the nature of the outbreak generated in China, it's food-related and to bats.

With an outstanding cast, this is one my favorites in the genre.

According to the NY Post:

"The filmmakers, including director Steven Soderbergh and writer Scott Burns, set out to make a film that was as realistic as possible. And they accomplished that, in part, by consulting numerous real-life epidemiological experts.

“Their goal was to try and really show people as accurate a picture that could be conjured, in hopes that it would motivate political leaders to get mobilized,” says Laurie Garrett, one of those health experts consulted by the filmmakers.

Outbreak (1995)

Dustin Hoffman and Morgan Freeman star in this story about Army medical researchers racing against the clock to stem the outbreak of a fast-spreading deadly virus.

Army doctors struggle to find a cure for a deadly virus spreading throughout a California town that was brought to America by an African monkey.

This is a more adventurous and more fictional version of an outbreak. With heroic scientists against leaders who show that science is always right! A great message.

It all started with a monkey taken away from its habitat.  Another example that they need to protect nature and leave wildlife alone!
