Conventional Lip Plumpers

Conventional lip plumpers contain low-quality, controversial, and unsafe ingredients such as colorants like red 6 lakes, and yellow 5, paraffin, alcohol, preservatives, parabens, petroleum derivatives, and other toxic or undisclosed ingredients such as fragrance. All Ingredients I strictly avoid!

  • ❌ Drying Alcohols and Alcohol-Based Fragrances: These can strip moisture from your lips, leaving them dry, chapped, and more prone to cracking
  • ❌ Parabens (e.g., Propylparaben): toxic preservatives, parabens are endocrine disruptors linked to hormone imbalance and increased cancer risk
  • ❌ Petrolatum (Petroleum Jelly): can be contaminated with toxic byproducts and acts as a penetration enhancer, increasing absorption of other harmful substances. 40% of users who apply petroleum jelly to their lips have tested positive for bacteria. This raises concerns about potential infections
  • ❌ Synthetic Coloring: May contain heavy metals like cadmium, lead, and mercury, which are toxic even in small amounts
  • ❌ Paraffin: petroleum-derived 
  • ❌ Mineral Oil: petroleum-derived 

Greenwashing Lip Plumpers

Avoid greenwashing lip plumpers made by brands that pretend to be organic, natural, or safer when they are not. They will use their misleading marketing tricks to convince you to buy their products.

  • ❌ Capsicum (Chili Pepper Extract): Used to create a tingling or burning sensation, but it works by irritating your lips, which can trigger an immune response and cause inflammation, redness, and even long-term sensitivity or allergic reactions
  • ❌ Bee Venom: Another irritant that can cause allergic reactions, swelling, and persistent inflammation, potentially leading to chronic lip sensitivity
  • ❌ Cinnamon Extract: Often included for its plumping effect, but it can be harsh and trigger allergic reactions or irritation. Plus, it can contain lead.
  • ❌ Titanium dioxide: Titanium dioxide is classified as expected to be toxic or harmful. Toxic when it is ingested, so avoid sunblock lip balms or lipsticks with titanium dioxide. I don’t recommend lip balm with sunblock unless it is from raspberry seeds. 
  • ❌ Natural flavors: made by unknown and undisclosed combinations of ingredients. Just like fragrance, we don’t know what they put in it.
  • ❌ Soy: cheap and often derived by GMO’s crops. It can be used as soy wax or soy oil.
  • ❌ Lanolin: derived from sheep’s wool
  • ❌ Seed Oils: cheap and unhealthy 

 

If you find any of these ingredients in your lip products, replace them with ones containing certified organic ingredients
