ZEBRA

I had a meeting with ZEBRA’s founder, and I learn the determination of a mom struggling to find basic daily products that she could trust enough to give to her kids. She could not find. She was using a very popular “natural” toothpaste, and that created health issues.

I know about that “natural toothpaste” brand, and I consider that greenwashing. Check my investigations here: Toothpaste and kids’ toothpaste.

She then created her own line using the most natural and safest ingredients she could find, eliminating all ingredients sourced from China and getting only suppliers in the USA and Europe.  It took her 2 years to formulate her ZEBRA toothpaste, and it is finally here.

We talked about her potassium sorbate, and she explained to me that it is not the conventional potassium sorbate derived from synthetic ingredients; her potassium sorbate is actually naturally derived: Non-GMO preservative/ECOCERT and COSMOS approved.

🌿 Also, her packaging is plastic-free, and it is made with sugar cane

Zebra Toothpaste with NO Hydroxyapatite

This is why Zebra avoids using Hydroxyapatite in their organic thhtohaste:

  • Hydroxyapatite only creates a surface layer on teeth. It doesn’t truly integrate with enamel.
  • It Blocks Nature’s Work: This coating interferes with your saliva’s natural process of delivering calcium and phosphate where your teeth actually need it.
  • Studies show it can slow or prevent true remineralization, leading to the very issues it claims to fix. Reference: ten Cate JM, Buzalaf MAR. J Dent Res. 2019;98(2):153–160.

Hydroxyapatite: Key Red Flags to Be Aware Of

Many hydroxyapatite (HA) toothpastes advise not rinsing after brushing so particles remain on the teeth longer. While this is positioned as beneficial, it raises meaningful concerns.

1. Synthetic particles may linger in the body
Most hydroxyapatite, especially nano- HA is lab-created. When left in the mouth, these particles may:

  • Be swallowed
  • Interact with soft tissues
  • Accumulate in the body over time

2. Disruption of the oral microbiome
Leaving HA on the teeth can create an artificial coating that may:

  • Interfere with saliva’s natural protective role
  • Alter the mouth’s bacterial balance
  • Mask underlying issues instead of supporting long-term oral health.

Common Warning Signs People Report

  • Increased cavities
  • Grey spotting
  • Translucence
  • White spots
