Although cellulose sponges are made from natural, biodegradable materials, their production process can still cause environmental pollution.

 

If you are choosing a cellulose sponge check that they are sourced from sustainable responsibly managed forests and tree farms, often using fast-growing species like eucalyptus and bamboo. Unlike synthetic sponges, sustainable cellulose sponges are biodegradable. They can decompose within 2-6 weeks in landfill conditions, breaking down naturally without leaving harmful microplastic residues.
