Organic Salt
Conventional Salt Brands
Avoid Conventional sea salts are contaminated with microplastics, heavy metals, additives, and other contaminants.
❌ 90% of sea salt is contaminated with microplastics: Microplastics are tiny fragments of plastic debris smaller than five millimeters in size – are an emerging environmental concern.
They are a threat to the global environment, able to reach a multitude of ecosystems and living organisms, including human blood. Research is associating potential hazards with micro particles and salt.
36 out of 39 salt brands sampled worldwide had microplastics in them. Applied to a larger scale, it is possible to assume that up to 90 percent of sea salt contains microplastics. Microplastic levels were found highest in sea salt, followed by lake salt and then rock salt.
Greenwashing Salt Brands
Avoid Greenwashing Salt made by brands pretending to be safer, or healthier when they are not. They may carry a higher content of heavy metals and do not provide testing.
❌ They may carry California Proposition 65 Warning
❌ Iodine Salt: According to the world-renowned Hashimoto’s expert and national thyroid expert Dr. Datis Kharrazian, we need to avoid salt with added iodine. Plus salt with iodine tends to have unhealthy added ingredients such as anti-caking agents.
High intakes of iodine can cause some of the same symptoms as iodine deficiency—including goiter, elevated TSH levels, and hypothyroidism—because excess iodine in susceptible individuals inhibits thyroid hormone synthesis and thereby increases TSH stimulation, which can produce goiter [2,88]

Saltverk Pure Flaky Sea Salt
💗 Saltverk is my number one Salt brand recommendation. I bought it and this is what I use.
Saltverk is one of the few entirely sustainable flaky sea salt producers in the world. What is amazing about this brand is that its salt is extracted from the cleanest ocean on earth: the Arctic Ocean in Iceland in Reykjanes where exists a lively wildlife, consisting of whales, seals, and birds.
💚Founded in 2011 Saltverk is hand-harvested, in the Westfjords of Iceland using a three century old method.
Produced using 100% geothermal energy, the old traditional way of saltmaking in Iceland, which is sustainable, has zero carbon footprints on the environment, and no CO2 and CH4 emissions.
🌿My new favorite salt! Made in Iceland packed in glass jars!
