Oxygen Brightener

Conventional Oxygen Brighteners

Avoid conventional Oxygen Brighteners

“Conventional Chlorine Bleach” is a disinfectant that’s been around for almost a hundred years, but that aside there are lots of problems with using bleach.  It is highly polluting, toxic to the environment, and irritating to the skin, and eyes, and breathing it in all day long isn’t great for your lungs.

❌ Toxic Oxygen Whitener: Harmful Fragrances, Dyes, Cancer-Causing Contaminants like Formaldehyde & 1,4-Dioxane, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), Optical Brighteners, Synthetic Nonylphenol Ethoxylates, Petrochemicals, Phosphates, Chlorine, Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES), Phthalates, Parabens, Methylisothiazolinone, Cocamide DEA, No toxic surfactants, Carbonic acid, polyethylene glycol, glucano-delta-lactone , benzenesulfonic acid, or Perfumes.

❌ BLEACH AND QUAT-BASED DISINFECTANTS Sodium hypochlorite – found in chlorine bleach – and quaternary ammonium compounds, also called quats are linked to respiratory harm and other serious health effects.

DO NOT MIX any laundry products with Chlorine, Ammonia, or any other toxic chemicals.

Greenwashing Oxygen Brightener

Avoid oxygen brighter made by greenwashing brands! Greenwashing is ehn a brna pretend to be “eco-friendly”, “sustainable”, “green”, or “safe” went they are not.

They will use marketing tricks to make you buy their products

Avoid greenwashing brands that pretend to be eco-friendly or non-toxic when they are not.

❌ Seventh Generation Non-Chlorine Bleach

Seventh Generation has been bought by Unilever in 2016. Unilever is one of the largest corporations in the world. They claim to be “eco-friendly” and “safe” when they are owned by Unilever which owns other toxic and polluting brands such as Axe, and Dove, responsible for creating toxic rivers and for polluting communities in countries like India, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Unilever is responsible for toxic mercury contamination, it is one of the top ten global plastic polluters (by BreakFreeFromPlastic), promoted toxic (and racist) skin lighteners, and participated in violence against striking workers. Plus they still use a lot of plastic containers which are cheaper for them and more toxic for us and the environment.

❌ Beach Alternative in PodsAvoid Laundry Pods and Laundry Sheets with Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA or PVOH). They contain plastic.

👉About 75% of PVA used does NOT degrade in wastewater treatment plants in the USA.
