Organic Marseille Soap

Greenwashing Marseille Soap

❌ The grand majority of Marseille soap brands is greenwashing! They pretend to use original ingredients and techniques, use this historical name to print it to the packing of their toxic fake Marseille bar soaps!

Authentic Marseille Soap The Story

It has been produced around Marseille, France, for about 600 years.

🌿The tradition started in 1370 with the authentic soap to be made with at least 72% olive oil, water, and ash from sea plants. In 1688, Louis XIV laid down by means of an Edict by (the king’s minister Colbert), the rules that institutionalized Marseille soap: production in cauldrons and only based on vegetable oils.

Originally made with traditional hard soap using vegetable oils.

After a deep search, I finally found the authentic Marseille Soap! 😍

So excited to share it with you, here is what I found:

There are only 4 authentic manufactories remaining.

They are following the traditions of this precious soap following the rules categorized under the Union of Soap Professionals of Marseille (UPSM).

Union of Soap Professionals of Marseille (UPSM)

🌸 This private association has deposited a collective mark which guarantees a constant quality, complying with a specific specification:

  • Its geographical origin: it must be made in Marseille and its region, the historical basin of soap making of Marseille

  • Its manufacturing process: it must be cooked in a cauldron for about 7 to 10 days, according to the five stages of the Marseille process.

  • Its composition: The soap of Marseille must be composed of vegetable oils exclusively (no animal fat). It has no fragrance, no dye, no preservatives, no additives.

Even if the market is saturated with Marseille soap if they don’t have this certification, then they are just abusing the term: ”Marseille soap.”
