Organic Coffee

Conventional Coffee

Conventional coffee is made using pesticides and other toxic chemicals that contaminate the land and the final products. They can also use unethical labor practices with abuses and unfair treatment.

Mold, or the mycotoxins: commonly found in conventional coffee. Mold allergies and mycotoxins trigger a compromised immune system. They can also trigger chronic inflammation.

❌ Pesticides and Herbicides: Conventional coffee is one of the most chemically treated crops globally, frequently exposed to synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides.

❌ Heavy Metals: Conventional coffee may contain trace amounts of heavy metals such as copper, arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury.

❌ Environmental Impact: The use of agrochemicals in conventional coffee farming also poses significant risks to farm workers, local communities, and the environment.

❌ Starbucks and Nespresso sourced their coffee from farms caught with Slave-Like Conditions

Brazil, the world’s largest coffee-growing nation, is under investigation for children and adults working under “conditions analogous to slavery” in some coffee farms.

These workers are exposed to health and safety risks from the use of toxic pesticides in coffee and from living in poor conditions at coffee farms. They are underpaid: less than 2% of the retail price goes to the coffee farmers.

Jacobs Douwe Egberts coffee also sources their coffee in this Brazilian slavery conditions, involving child labor, pesticides, and slavery conditions.

Nestlé and Jacobs Douwe Egberts together account for about 40% of the global coffee market. Their brands include Nescafé, Nespresso, Dolce Gusto, Taster’s Choice, Coffee Mate, Gevalia, Senseo, Jacobs, Maxwell House, and Tassimo.

Greenwashing Coffee

❌ Greenwashing coffee is when a brand pretends to be natural or eco-friendly when it is not. They use misleading marketing tricks to convince you to buy their products.

They say “organic,” and they don’t have USDA certification, or they even sell organic coffee, and they claim to be “healthy” when they contain heavy metals, and they don’t offer third-party testing for mold or contaminants.

To avoid that, pick certified and third-party tested Coffee from more trustworthy companies, not corporations.
