Air Purifier

An air purifier is a device that removes airborne contaminants in a room to improve air quality.

What is indoor air quality? Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) refers to the air quality within and around buildings, especially as it relates to the health of the building’s occupants. Removing common pollutants indoors can help reduce your risk of indoor health concerns.

Particles that can impact Indoor Air Quality include common smoke, bacteria, tobacco smoke, pollen, pet dander, and dust. Other environmental factors include pollution, chemicals, and wildfires

Pollen released into the atmosphere when flowers come into bloom, with levels increasing over the warmer months. It can be brought into the home on clothes, hair and pets.

Dust:can include skin cells, bacteria, mold and microplastics, and gets disturbed as you move around your home.** Without an air purifier, it can stay airborne for up to 30 minutes.

Pet dander can include microscopic skin flakes and saliva, and it’s light enough to linger in the air for up to 30 minutes. As well as sticking to furniture, bedding and upholstery.

Mold grows on window frames, walls, textiles, plants and decaying food. Excess moisture causes it to spread and release spores. Without a purifier, mold spores can remain airborne for up to 30 minutes.

How does it work?

An air purifier is essentially a motor with a fan that draws polluted air in a room into the unit and forces that air through different layers of filter. The purified air is then returned to the room repeating this cycle over and over to improve the air quality effectively.

A whole-house air filtering system (that attaches to HVAC) deals with particulates only, not with gases and odors, that’s why it is recommended to add an Air Purifier especially if you live in a large city or deal with allergies, and chemical sensitivities, or asthma.

HEPA is a type of pleated mechanical air filter. It is an acronym for “high-efficiency particulate air [filter]” (as officially defined by the U.S. Dept. of Energy). Activated Carbon

According to the EPA, activated carbon is the best technology in air purifiers to filter gases. Activated carbon adsorbs molecules from harmful chemicals and gases to its surface.  

No Ozone Emissions

Since 2010, all portable indoor air cleaning devices sold to people or businesses in California are required to be certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Electronic air cleaners must also be tested for ozone emissions and meet an ozone emission concentration limit of 0.050 parts per million (50 ppb)

In accordance with California Assembly Bill 2276 (2006, Pavley), CARB adopted an air cleaner regulation to limit the amount of ozone produced from indoor air cleaning devices, with the goal of protecting public health: All indoor air cleaners sold in, or shipped to, California must meet certain ozone emission and electrical safety standards.​
