Organic Color Treated Hair

If you are looking to restore your treated hair in a natural way, this page is for you! You will find there the best organic and most natural shampoos and products for color-treated hair made by responsible brands. Made with the best organic and natural ingredients.

You will learn how to avoid toxic, conventional products made with synthetic polluting ingredients, and to spot greenwashing brands.

Conventional Color-treated Hair Products

❌ Avoid conventional shampoos and other hair products that contain common chemical ingredients and irritants such as fragrances, the endocrine-disrupting parabens, SLA, Formaldehyde, sulfates, and all the ingredients that end in -eth (e.g. Ceteareth, Laureth-4, Laureth-23), also Polysorbate-20, Cocamidopropyl betaine, Triethanolamine and Cocamide DEA/MEA.

Avoid D&C dyes: All of them are synthetic dyes produced from petroleum or coal tar sources.

Greenwashing Color-treated Hair Products

❌ Avoid and “fake natural-greenwashing” brands.

Greenwashing is when a brand pretends to be organic, eco-friendly, natural, or safe when it is not. They use misleading greenwashing techniques to convince you to buy their products! They may make claims that are not regulated promising you safer ingredients when they are controversial:

❌ Ethylhexylglycerin: a preservative classified as an irritant, this substance causes serious eye damage. Severe eye damage was observed in animal testing. Liver effects observed at low doses in repeat-dose studies in rats. This substance is harmful to aquatic life with long-lasting effects. Highly relevant, sensitizer in ‘hypo-allergenic’ cosmetics. To report on 13 patients who presented with allergic contact dermatitis caused by ethylhexylglycerin.

❌ Phenoxyethanol: preservative classified as an irritanttoxic, and harmful. It can have adverse effects on the central and peripheral nervous systems, linked to allergic contact uritica and dermatitis. Made by the reaction of corrosive phenol with carcinogen ethylene oxide. Exposure to phenoxyethanol has been linked to reactions ranging from eczema to severe, life-threatening allergic reactions. Infant oral exposure to phenoxyethanol can acutely affect nervous system function.
