Organic Purple  Shampoo

Avoid Toxic Purple Shampoos

Take a look at their main ingredients:

Avoid D&C dyes: All of them are synthetic dyes produced from petroleum or coal tar sources.

  • Acid Violet 43 (Uncertified Ext. D&C Violet No. 2)  Worse: Human skin toxicant allergen. Potential impacts on blood clotting were observed in animal testing.  Genotoxicity was reported in vitro tests. Color additives are not approved by the FDA for cosmetics used around the eyes. Causes serious eye damage.

  • Ext. D&C Violet No. 2 (CI 60730):  It is a synthetic colorant. The EWG warns that the chemical is produced from petroleum or coal tar sources, and coal tar is a known human carcinogen. Coal tar dyes used in hair coloring products have been linked with bladder cancer. It is a skin toxicant that causes serious eye damage. Genotoxicity was reported in vitro tests. Avoid Greenwashing Purple Shampoos

Avoid Greenwashing purple shampoos made by brands that pretend to be organic, natural, or non-toxic, when they are not. They will use misleading marketing tricks to convince you to buy their products. They may make claims that are not regulated, promising you safer ingredients when they are controversial:

❌ Ethylhexylglycerin: a preservative classified as an irritant, this substance causes serious eye damage. Severe eye damage was observed in animal testing. Liver effects were observed at low doses in repeat-dose studies in rats. This substance is harmful to aquatic life with long-lasting effects. Highly relevant, sensitizer in ‘hypo-allergenic’ cosmetics. To report on 13 patients who presented with allergic contact dermatitis caused by ethylhexylglycerin.

❌ Phenoxyethanol: preservative classified as an irritanttoxic, and harmful. It can have adverse effects on the central and peripheral nervous systems, linked to allergic contact urticaria and dermatitis. Made by the reaction of corrosive phenol with carcinogen ethylene oxide. Exposure to phenoxyethanol has been linked to reactions ranging from eczema to severe, life-threatening allergic reactions. Infant oral exposure to phenoxyethanol can acutely affect nervous system function.
