Dandruff

Dandruff can be caused by a condition seborrheic dermatitis caused by a fungus or yeast.

The more conventional way it is treated is with traditional anti-fungal products such as ketoconazole shampoo.

According to Wikipedia: The Malassezia yeast is believed to play a role. Seborrheic dermatitis-like eruptions are also associated with vitamin B6 deficiency. My naturopath recommends taking B6 with the superior form P5P not higher than 50 mg per day.

Besides reinforcing the body with Vitamin B6 and zinc, an important factor in lowering the pH of your skin with shampoo and other products that are more acidic.

Conventional Dandruff Shampoos

❌ Conventional dandruff shampoos or dandruff treatments are often too harsh and made with strong chemical and synthetic ingredients that can only fix the problem temporarily. Dandruff can be exacerbated by overly strong cleansing shampoos which overstimulate the scalp with their irritating chemicals and then produce as reaction excess sebum.

Conventional dandruff shampoos or dandruff treatments can stimulate the growth of Malassezia.

Full of toxic or irritant chemicals are found in most skin care products, such as

Sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate, propylene glycol, PEG, DEA, TEA, parabens, and fragrance.

Although Malassezia is a natural part of the skin microbiome, this fungus can take over the scalp, causing itching and flaking skin. It can wake up and become dominant especially during stress, with an imbalanced diet, or when the scalp is subjected to today’s toxic shampoos.

Greenwashing Dandruff Shampoo

❌ They contain controversial ingredients such as

Zinc pyrithione: Acute toxicity of Zinc pyrithione to human skin cells in vitro

Phenoxyethanol: adverse effects on the central and peripheral nervous systems, linked to allergic contact uritica, and dermatitis. Classified as toxic or harmful. Made by the reaction of corrosive phenol with carcinogen ethylene oxide.

Ethylhexylglycein: Classified as an irritant, this substance causes serious eye damage. This substance is harmful to aquatic life with long-lasting effects.

🌿Apple cider vinegar

Organic Vinegar and frankincense oil addresses hair failure and dandruff,  organic tea tree oil, organic eucalyptus oil,  organic rosemary oil, and organic rose water.

To help to get rid of yeast-like fungus use USDA Certified Organic ACV once a week. Use it pure or dilute it in this proportion: 1 part ACV to 3 parts water,  you can use a spray bottle

Spray it on your scalp and leave it on for 10 minutes before shampooing. It is recommended to wash your hair often to avoid the fungus feeding off the oils of your scalp.

🌿 How to wash your hair

For the health of your hair you need to get rid of the scales: with your fingertips deeply and gently massage the shampoo on your scalp without scratching your scalp.

In order to wash away the scales and flakes, loosen them with a shampoo brush to help exfoliate your scalp.

Let the shampoo sit for at least 2-3 minutes before rinsing.  Follow with a light but thorough massage with therapeutic products.

🌿 Clarifying your hair

Check my organic clarifying shampoo page. A good clarifying hair rinse can help to remove product buildup on the hair and scalp. It unclogs the follicles, improving scalp conditions such as dandruff, oily hair excess shedding, and possibly hair loss. I listed my favorites on this page.

My number one recommendation is Chagrin Valley Soap
