The most important thing we need to check when choosing an organic mattress is the manufacturer and mattress certifications, specifically GOTS and GOLS Organic Certifications!

 

✅ GOTS & GOLS Organic Certified Factory

PlushBeds is proud to be a mattress factory that has earned the GOTS and GOLS Organic Factory Certification from Control Union, which verifies the organic status of the materials they use, their manufacturing process, and their mattresses.

Control Union regularly audits the company to ensure its transparency and adherence to strict standards. This certification ensures that you are purchasing the safest and most natural mattresses available, free from dangerous chemicals and VOCs emitted from materials like polyester and polyurethane foams. 

 

The GOTS and GOLS Certified organic factory has a detailed tracking system that assigns each mattress a serial number linked to the organic cotton, wool, and latex used. Control Union regularly audits the company to ensure the organic materials they buy are equal to the organic materials they sell. The factory must comply with organic and environmental standards outlined by GOTS and GOLS, including eco-friendly guidelines for water and energy usage, machinery cleaning, and material storage and packaging.

✅ GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification (cotton and wool)

This certification ensures that all their mattresses are:

  • Made from organically grown, harvested, and processed materials

  • Manufactured in their facility in an environmentally and socially responsible way

  • Labeled and stored in our facility in a way that is easily trackable

 

✅ GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard) certification (latex)

This certification ensures that the latex used in their mattresses is:

  • Harvested from the sap of organic rubber trees

  • Processed in an organic and environmentally friendly way

  • Manufactured in their facility in a way that meets organic standards

 

✅ UL/GREENGUARD: a certification that less than 1% of all mattresses receive. It is a third-party certification program that tests for chemical emissions from consumer products and materials.

These mattresses are certified to meet the world’s most rigorous chemical emissions standards and are UL Environment GreenGuard Gold certified against PBDE Flame Retardants, Prohibited Phthalates, Mercury, Lead & Heavy Metals, Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), 2-Methoxyethanol, Formaldehyde, Chloroform, Methylene, and 10,000 other harmful chemicals that can be found in traditional mattresses. These  GreenGuard Gold-certified mattresses are tested and recertified every 90 days.

Greenguard requires testing of a finished mattress for specific emission limits of formaldehyde and other volatile organic compounds. The related Greenguard Gold has more stringent emission limits on the above VOCs. Formaldehyde Free Certified by UL Environment. That means the mattresses are scientifically tested for prolonged exposure in environmental chambers to meet rigorous emissions standards for chemical exposure and pollutants, such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), formaldehyde, and phthalates.

 

✅ Forest Stewardship Council® FSC Certified: The Forest Stewardship Council is an international organization that is dedicated to responsible forestry. They work to protect the environment and ecosystems within forests as well as the communities that surround and inhabit them. It not only works to protect water quality and prevent the loss of natural forest cover, but it also prohibits the use of hazardous chemicals in forests and protects the rights of local communities. PlushBeds is proud to use FSC Certified wood in its Orthopedic Foundations. 

 

✅ Rainforest Alliance: The Rainforest Alliance is the most prestigious certifier of FSC forests. That little green frog assures consumers that workers and their families enjoy dignified, safe conditions, and that wildlife and habitats have not been harmed. Rainforest Alliance Certified farms have met rigorous social and environmental standards. 

 

✅ Arpico Certified Organic Latex: PlushBeds is the world’s largest distributor of Arpico Organic Latex – pure organic latex harvested sustainably and certified by the USDA and GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard). GOLS Certified Arpico latex represents the finest in all-natural, organic latex and is free from fillers, dyes, chemicals, adhesives, and pesticides. The Arpico production process is also free of petroleum chemicals that can trigger allergies, illnesses, and other sensitivities. Arpico’s quality latex has many certifications and endorsements, including the following:

  • LGA – evaluates the durability and resilience of natural latex.
  • SATRA – sets standards for 100% natural flame retardation.
  • ABC Research Corporation – evaluates the antibacterial nature of natural latex.
  • ECO – certifies that products are free of fillers, hazardous particles, and synthetic rubber, and certifies latex foam as 100% natural.
