What is Manuka Honey?
🌿Mānuka honey truly is the golden standard of honey. Mānuka honey is produced from the characteristic nectar from the sweet-smelling flower of the Mānuka tree. Mānuka Honey is unique honey, it comes from the nectar of the flower of the Mānuka bush (Leptospermum scoparium) which is indigenous to New Zealand.
It is the nectar and the bee that give this honey its unique properties. It is widely recognized and highly sought after by consumers and has a substantial body of research behind it.
Rich in amino acids, Vitamins B & C, antioxidants, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates, and bioactive compounds, mānuka honey is a superfood and at the forefront of natural health sciences. No other honey has the volume or complexity of natural components at work like New Zealand Mānuka honey
Delicious, thick, and with a characteristic dark cream to dark brown colour, Mānuka honey has long been admired as an exceptional honey with a distinct, complex flavour and rich aroma unlike any other honey in the world.
🐝🌿Mānuka Honey is highly valued by the consumer and those that are licensed to use the quality mark.
Mānuka honey comes from a complex collection of natural compounds that called the Unique Mānuka Factors (UMF™) – and you won’t find it anywhere but in authentic New Zealand Mānuka Honey.
UMF™ is the only quality and rating system that independently certifies the presence and quality of all factors that make New Zealand mānuka honey unique, ensuring you get honey that meets your needs. Check for the UMF™ quality mark on the front of pack when choosing your mānuka honey. The UMF® quality mark is registered in all key consumer markets.
✅ The UMF™ grading system has two components which are expressed on any UMF™ licensed honey product:
1. The label claim that it is Mānuka
2. The number - this represents three chemical markers that indicate the content of this honey to ensure purity and quality. This includes the key chemical markers DHA, MGO, and Leptosperin.
What UMFHA is?
Unique Mānuka Factor Honey Association (UMFHA) independently tests and certifies every batch for four key factors that make the all-important UMF™ rating found on every jar of authentic mānuka honey. With the UMF™ rating, you can confidently choose the right option for you when investing in your health and wellness.
Not all Mānuka Honey's are UMF™ rated – only those which have been independently tested and verified by UMFHA are given a UMF™ rating.
The UMFHA has developed internationally recognized testing procedures to confirm the presence of key signature markers – MGO, Leptosperin and DHA – found in genuine, pure, quality Mānuka honey from New Zealand.
All honey has antibacterial activity due to what is commonly called Peroxide Activity (PA). However, Mānuka Honey has a special, unique antibacterial activity called Non-Peroxide activity (NPA).
Research has shown that NPA is very stable in Mānuka Honey even when it is exposed to light and heat.
