Conventional Ice Cream

Avoid conventional Ice cream made with unhealthy, synthetic and cheap ingredients. Instead of real food, they will add unnecessary fillers and artificial sweeteners:

  • High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS): Cheap sweetener tied to obesity, insulin resistance, and fatty liver disease; floods the liver unlike natural sugars.
  • Artificial Flavors and Colors (e.g., Red 40, Blue 1, Yellow 5): Petroleum-based; may cause hyperactivity, allergies, or carcinogenic risks; banned in some countries.
  • Carrageenan: Seaweed-derived thickener that can inflame the gut, promote leaky gut, or tumors in studies.
  • Emulsifiers (Mono- and Diglycerides, Polysorbate 80): Often hide trans fats; disrupt gut bacteria, raise bad cholesterol, and link to heart disease.
  • ❌ Propylene Glycol: Anti-freeze agent irritating to organs and potentially toxic in excess.
  • Artificial Sweeteners (Sucralose, Aspartame, Acesulfame K): Alter gut flora, insulin, and may tie to cancer or neurological issues.
  • Gums and Fillers (Guar Gum, Cellulose Gum, Xanthan Gum): From wood pulp or plants; cause bloating, block nutrients, mimic fat cheaply.
  • Preservatives (Sodium Benzoate, Palm Oil, Partially Hydrogenated Oils): Form carcinogens like benzene, promote inflammation, or contain trans fats.

Greenwashing Ice Cream

Avoid Greenwashing ice creams made by brands that pretends to be organic, natural, sustainable or better when they are  not. They will use misleading marketing tricks to convince you to buy their products. 

 

Unproven claims: They may claim to be “organic or natural” but their are third party certified. They don’t display the USDA certified organic seal. 

Palm Oil: Palm kernel oil is unhealthy for the human body. It is responsible for human rights abuses, land grabs, and rainforest destruction. Its irresponsible cultivation in tropical areas is causing Orangutan Extinction. Report from Rainforest Action Network.

Natural Flavors: are chemically engineered mixtures made from plant or animal sources (like fruits, spices, meats, dairy, etc.), but they are heavily processed using solvents, preservatives, and other additives. Companies can list “natural flavors” on the label but don’t have to disclose the specific chemicals
