Organic Laundry Detergents
Many of us do not realize how toxic our daily household detergents can be!
They contain chemicals, irritants, and pollutants that affect not only sensitive individuals, pregnant women, the elderly, pets, children, and wildlife, but all of us, too! Yet, they are sold in regular grocery stores as harmless products.
Conventional laundry detergents and dryer sheets contain toxic ingredients and chemicals that are cheap to produce, harsh on us, the planet, and the environment. They are linked with asthma and respiratory damage, skin allergies and irritations, development and reproductive toxicity, posing cancer and environmental hazards. You can check your current detergent's toxicity rating here at EWG.org
When someone is wearing a garment that has been washed with a conventional detergent, I can recognize it right away from its typical toxic fragrance. I can even smell this toxic mix of chemicals that comes from home laundry rooms when I walk by on the sidewalk. Dryer sheet pollutants contaminate the air around us and reach long distances through the vent of the dryer. Read here.
Organic Laundry Detergents
Thatβs why we need to have the right information that allows us to buy a better detergent to protect us, our family, pets, and the environment. Use your nose and eyes. Read the ingredients list. Avoid fragranced products and colored liquid products.
To be sure that it is really natural, pick a USDA Certified Organic detergent that guarantees it is made with at least 95% organic ingredients, produced in a rigorously eco-friendly way. NO GMOs, pesticides, or toxic ingredients are allowed. A USDA Certified Organic product protects us from conventional toxic brands and at the same time from deceiving greenwashing brands that pretend to be natural, but they are not! Natural Bleach Alternatives
In this period we keep our house cleaner, disinfected and we wash our laundry more often.
"Conventional Chlorine Bleach" is a disinfectant thatβs been around for almost a hundred years, but that aside there are lots of problems with using bleach. First, itβs not an effective cleaner, so youβll need to use something else to perform that task. It also comes with very slow contact times (the amount of time a surface must stay wet to kill germs). Finally, it is irritating to the skin, eyes and breathing it in all day long isnβt great for your lungs.
β
Hydrogen peroxide is a great disinfectant and a great alternative to traditional bleach or alcohol.
I keep it in a spray bottle and spray it on many surfaces including the kitchen counter, handles, doorknobs, bathroom, and cell phones. β
-
No βbleachyβ smell, the color-safe formula can be added to every laundry load as a chlorine bleach alternative
-
