Organic Curly Hair Shampoo

I tried many  “natural” shampoos I found at Whole Foods, with the same result: scalp rash.

I thought that I was "allergic to any shampoos” when instead these "not-so-natural" shampoos were responsible for creating these reactions.

🌸I learned that both conventional and "fake natural" shampoos, contain common chemical ingredients and irritants such as fragrances, the endocrine-disrupting parabens, SLA, Formaldehyde, sulfates, and all the ingredients that end in -eth (e.g. Ceteareth, Laureth-4, Laureth-23), also Polysorbate-20, Cocamidopropyl betaine, Triethanolamine and Cocamide DEA/MEA.

🌸 I also learned to avoid preservatives commonly found in natural shampoos such as:

  • potassium sorbate, which is considered a skin, eye, and respiratory irritant and

  • sodium benzoate classified 3 on

  • honeysuckle which creates benzoic acid.

🌿 Once I switched to truly natural shampoos, my irritation magically disappeared and I have softer, stronger hair, and a healthier scalp. If you have any issues with your hair or scalp, it can be the high chemical content and cheap ingredients found in conventional shampoos that are often high-priced!

Here is why I don’t use conventional shampoo.

They are made of harsh cleaning agents, carrying agents, emulsifiers, emollients, humectants, proteins, fragrances, and preservatives.
❌ Cleaning agents contain synthetic and chemical surfactants: Cocamide, PEGs- (SLES), (SLS).
❌ Carrying agents are the base of shampoo and are the active ingredients. Don’t use a shampoo with the carrying agent propylene glycol: it causes dermatitis and it is rated 3 on
❌ Emulsifiers create the consistency of shampoo. Toxic emulsifiers are MEA, DEA, TEA, and MIPA, and ingredients with PEG-n are considered carcinogenic.
❌ Emollients keep the hair moisturized. Toxic emollients are: silicones such as dimethicone. They coats hair and they are polluting since they do not biodegrade.
❌ Humectants give a more full look to the hair. Irritating humectants are butylene glycol, propylene glycol, and ethylene glycol.
❌Fragrance is added to mask the toxic smell of conventional shampoo. These unnatural fragrances are strong and can create allergic reactions, dermatitis, respiratory distress, and potential effects on the reproductive system.

Choose only shampoos with essential oils. Check the natural fragrance brands page.

Proteins: repair and strengthen the hair. Skip artificial protein Natural proteins are rice or quinoa proteins.
Preservatives such as Parabens, Dioxane, Benzyl Alcohol are toxic and they are the worse preservatives.

I also avoid potassium sorbate sodium benzoate. These are considered better preservatives but they can still create skin reactions.

  • Potassium sorbate: considered a skin, eye, and respiratory irritant.

  • Sodium benzoate: benzoic acid, vitamin C mix can cause cancer. Capable of causing contact urticaria

  • Honeysuckle: creates benzoic acid.

🍃 Created by a mama this shampoo gives your curls extra bounce and softness with vitamin-based formula. Shea butter conditioners and acts as a cuticle sealant to lock in hydration.

🌸 What’s In It: Tomato fruit extract, rice extract, and keratin amino acids. What It Does: Keratin (the protein that makes up our hair) is an essential building block to restoring strength and supporting regrowth.

Tomato fruit ferment seals moisture into individual strands, giving curls that spiral effect. Last up, rice extract has been used as a beauty treatment for centuries — known specifically for its strengthening and smoothing properties.

🌿 It features shea butter and organic virgin coconut oil. Both are renowned for their emollient texture and moisturizing capabilities. Shea butter contains vitamins A and E, and essential fatty acids. It also shields hair from heat damage. Coconut oil nourishes the scalp and reduces oil build up. It’s also great for reducing breakage—so hair is less brittle.

Tomato: Enhances curl retention, hydrates and protects hair

Quinoa: Repairs hair damage, and aids in hair growth
