Organic Comforters

Here you will find the best and most natural comforters and duvets.

Organic Duvets

A duvet usually called a comforter or quilt in US English, and a doona in Australian English is a type of bedding consisting of a soft flat bag filled with either down, feathers, wool, cotton, silk, or a synthetic alternative, and is typically protected with a removable cover, analogous to a pillow and pillowcase.

According to The Council of Fashion Designers of America, Inc. (CFDA), bamboo is a natural fiber that can be processed mechanically into a natural bast fiber or chemically into a regenerated manufactured fiber.

Avoid

  • conventional cotton: made with toxic chemicals and waste more water during products

  • 100% bamboo viscose (aka bamboo rayon): Most bamboo bedding is made of bamboo rayon, which is hypoallergenic, thermoregulating, soft, and resistant to odors and bacteria. Unfortunately, bamboo rayon production requires a more chemically intensive process that can harm the environment, workers, and local communities.

  • 100% bamboo modal: Bamboo modal is made with the same chemical process as viscose. However, modal fabrics are put through an extra process to stretch them. This makes modal lighter and finer than viscose and increases the strength of the fibers.

Better material:

  • Raw bamboo linen fiber: Also known as bast bamboo fiber, raw bamboo linen fiber is produced without chemicals, similar to hemp fabrics. However, even though these fabrics are sustainable, they’re coarse and wrinkle easily, so they’re not suitable for intimate bedding products.

  • 100% bamboo lyocell: Bamboo lyocell The production process behind CleanBamboo doesn’t require toxic solvents that produce harmful waste. Lyocell offers the same benefits as bamboo fabric made from viscose, providing antimicrobial bedding that’s soft and durable (minus the chemically-intensive process).

Note: even though they are better options, bamboo is still produced in China

  • ✅ GOTS Certified Organic cotton: GOTS seal can reassure you that what you’re choosing to wear is not harmful to you, the environment, or the growers and sewers along the way.

✅ GOTS Certified Organic Comforters

Global Organic Textile Standard. A finished textile must be made up of at least 70% organic fiber to be GOTS-certified. What makes GOTS so special is that it does not ONLY require the usage of organic fiber, it goes above and beyond to encourage makers to meet a number of criteria throughout the supply chain.

This means that dyes must be free of thousands of toxic chemicals, wastewater must be treated properly, workers must receive a living wage and factories must meet stringent safety standards.

Gaining GOTS certification for textile products is not easy, but it’s worth it. Just like shopping for organic produce with the USDA organic seal, the GOTS seal can reassure you that what you’re choosing to wear is not harmful to you, the environment, or the growers and sewers along the way.
