Organic Nail Salons

💅 Are you looking for a safe place to get a manicure or pedicure in LA?

I avoid nail polish salons for many reasons: because generally, they are a toxic environment,  unhealthy to breathe for us and the workers.

😷 Do you recognize that strong, recognizable smell that drifts outside onto the street from nail salons? Don’t inhale it!  It can be a sign of airborne toxic chemicals. Nail salons contain air quality that is hazardous to both customers and workers.

🙅‍I don’t support nail salons. More than 375,000 nail technicians work in salons across the United States and face health hazards. According to the United States Department of Labor:

“Workers exposed to chemicals found in glues, polishes, removers, emollients and other salon products may experience negative health effects such as asthma and other respiratory illnesses, skin disorders (e.g. allergic contact dermatitis), liver disease, reproductive loss, and cancer. Nail salon workers can be exposed to biological hazards if they come into contact with infected skin, nails, or blood from a co-worker or client. Diseases that can result from exposure to infected blood include hepatitis and AIDS. Nail salon workers can also get fungal infections, such as athlete’s foot, from clients.”

Nail salons are a hazard to us and to the workers. Do not bring your kids into the salon. Paint your nails and your children’s nails at home in a ventilated area, using the safest nail polishes that you can possibly find.💅

They also put in our hand’s skin and nails undisclosed products, which result even in more toxins for us. It is just not worth it because we want to have the nails done.

I always recommend having your manicure and pedicure at home, with open windows in a ventilated space, even better out the door, in your garden, or balcony if you have one.

Lastly, this is my current recommendation for a place to go for a manicure in LA. It is less smelly than traditional nail salons. It has an open space, and it is well ventilated. Normally nail salon’s smell reaches us until sidewalks, they are just not eco-friendly, healthy, or well ventilated.

Note: their nail polish is not my favorite since it has some ingredients that I personally avoid.

You can see the ingredients listed below. You can learn more about safer nail polish on this page,

My best suggestion for you is to have your nails done at home with your favorite safer nail polish, hire a manicurist and turn it into a girlfriend’s fun spa day at home.

If you still want to go to a nail salon, choose one that is well ventilated and brings your safer nail polish, organic hand lotion, Organic Nail & Cuticle Oil or cream with you, at least you know what your skin absorbing plus you won’t have surprises since their performance and the safety and color are already been proved.

I will keep updating this page with safer nail polish salons! Stay tuned!
