New Zealand Honey Co.

New Zealand Honey Co. is my favorite Manuka Honey Brand.

A family-owned company with a passion for natural well-being.  They’d been beekeeping since the 1930s. They are one of the very few Manuka Honey brands to be fully certified by Unique Manuka Factor (UMF™)

Unique Manuka Factor (UMF™) Honey Association

The UMF™ trademark was established in 1998 by the UMFHA (evolving from the Active Manuka Honey Association).

UMF™ is endorsed by the Ministry for Primary Industries, and backed by the New Zealand government. Today, UMF™ represents the highest standard of honey testing worldwide, hence, it’s become a globally respected trademark.

They protect the term ‘manuka honey’, have a greater presence in international markets, and ensure credibility and legitimacy around the world.

Manuka honey is scarce but widely sought after. Therefore, stringent testing is necessary to prevent counterfeit products from being sold on the market.

The UMFHA tests manuka honey for the presence of chemical markers: Methylglyoxal (MGO), Dihydroxyacetone (DHA), Leptosperin, Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), and DNA from manuka pollen, all of which must be present in order to label it as monofloral manuka honey.

Their Manuka honey jar has a UMF™ label, which means it is authentic,  pure Manuka Honey.

New Zealand Honey Co. is a member of the UMFHA and is qualified and accredited to display the UMF™ trademark on their manuka honey

Mānuka Honey for wounds

Mānuka Honey has wound healing benefits and can also help to speed recovery and reduce scarring.

  • When the wound is clean and free from blood, open a container of Mānuka Honey. You can either dip a clean cloth in the honey and gently dab the wound, or pour the honey over it.

  • Take note that the deeper the wound, the more honey is needed. It’s also advisable to expose the area around the wound with honey to kill any nearby germs that might reach the open skin.
